Merlyn took up singing in 1993, when she joined a prestigious Estonian children's choir "Ellerhein". She sang in "Ellerhein" for five years, then pursued her studies in solo singing in School of Fine Arts, under the guidance of Janika Sillamaa.
In 1998, she took part in a singing contest "Tähtede laul" and placed third, being the youngest singer in her group of 14-17 year olds. In 2001 she participated in Estonia's biggest singing competition "Kaks takti ette" and managed to reach the finals as an audience favorite and also being the youngest contestant participating.
From 2003 to 2006 Merlyn was the main vocalist in a popular Estonian girl-band "Nexus". Throughout these years the band gained two "Hit of the Year" awards with the songs "Nii kuum" in 2003 and "Hingetuna" in 2004. In addition to that, in 2004 the band was also awarded with a "Golden Record" in the category of the year's newcomer. In 2005 "Nexus" released their third album and placed second at the "Hit of the Year Awards" with a song "Niikunii". The band broke up in 2006. "Nexus" is still considered as one of the most successful girl-bands in Estonia.
Merlyn started her solo career in 2008 and also embarked on composing and songwriting. In October, 2010 she released her debut album "Ihuüksi", which included four recognized radio hits "Soovin sulle head", "Ihuüksi", "Miks alles nüüd" and "Paradiis".
In 2010, Merlyn won the "newcomer of the year" title at "R2 Music Awards".
In May, 2011 she released her first international single "2Night", which was composed in cooperation with a German producer Marc van Linden. Together with Estonia the song was also released in Germany, Poland, Czech Republic and Austria.
